Numerical analysis of laterally loaded barrettes performance in cohesionless soils

Abstract This paper investigates the performance of a single and group laterally loaded barrettes using series numerical models in three-dimensional finite element software. The simulation both directions is verified by comparing predictions to field measurements previously published literature. defines soil wedge around barrette sheared at strain equivalent minimum shear value side or higher as effective wedge. results from suite experiments show that size remains constant different lateral loads, density, shape (aspect ratio), stiffness. also delineates effect spacing on mobilized wedges associated deformations. then suggests dimensions for be used input parameters analyses p-y curves based are improved all studied cases when compared computations. studies appropriate design multipliers recommended literature method groups multiple rows. Comparisons with validity employing determining suitable p-multipliers.
